Summary/Objective
The ideal candidate is an independent, dependable and hardworking individual to work part-time and virtually in a Texas Estate Planning, Probate, Trust, and Real Estate law practice. Flexible hours between 5-10 hours per week.

The Paralegal researches law, prepares documents and correspondence, makes filings and communicates with the courts, clients and other parties to assist the Managing Attorney.

Essential Functions

  • Researches and analyzes law sources such as statutes and codes, recorded judicial decisions and legal articles.

  • Prepares legal documents such as wills, trusts, briefs, petitions, motions, orders and engagement agreements, letters of instruction and termination of service agreements.

  • Organizes relevant financial, business and family information to facilitate the preparation of estate planning and probate documents for clients.

  • Manages scheduled activities in ongoing legal processes to ensure proper filings are made by the corresponding deadlines.

  • Maintains orderly and secure files (both paper and on-line) to ensure ready uninterrupted access by the managing partner to original legal documents and other clientl documents.

  • Corresponds with the courts, with clients and with other interested parties and maintains secure, accurate and complete records of letters, memoranda, emails, texts and telephone calls.

  • Track time worked and create an invoice as an independent contractor tracking time with matters for law practice Clients.

Additional Functions

  • As needed, assists with telephone call/messaging, other administrative duties and other office management functions.

  • Performs other administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, providing information to callers and composing and preparing routine correspondence.

This position requires the ability to:

  • Perform legal research to obtain needed information from statutes, codes, court decisions, legal journals, public records and online resources.

  • Write legal documents using the appropriate terminology and following the appropriate conventions for format and appearance for such documents.

  • Draft documents that are grammatically correct and professional in tone and presentation.

  • Manage time to efficiently complete assigned tasks.

  • Correctly prioritize tasks to promptly complete high priority work.

  • Communicate verbally in a professional manner.

  • Organize files and documents in a logical and orderly manner.

  • Maintain awareness of and meet critical filing deadlines.

Work Environment

Initial training with Managing Attorney may be in person (if local). The Paralegal will work from home or a remote office with his/her own computer, and may occasionally be asked to meet in the office, a professional office environment or a Client’s home for Will Signing ceremony with Attorney (if local). This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanner and filing cabinets.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time position with varying hours of work, most of which are expected to be within standard business hours. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or two years of related experience as a paralegal; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Microsoft office (one year).
